Baker is a historic Denver neighborhood located adjacent to the South Platte River. Situated just a half mile south of downtown, Baker is for those who love an urban vibe. Its close proximity to downtown and all of the amenities that come with, such as the 16th Street Mall and the Convention Center, is just one of the characteristics to love about this neighborhood.

Baker is hip, edgy, and effortlessly stylish with the perfect balance of chic and gritty. The collection of divey music venues and watering holes, historic homes, and locally owned shops make this area treasured by hipsters and long-time locals alike. The area is brimming with coffee shops, tattoo parlors, book stores, vintage boutique shops, yoga studios, and more. Even for those living outside its borders, Baker - and South Broadway as a whole – is a destination in its own right.

It’s an area that is easy to get around, even if you don’t have a car or are simply trying to save on gas money. Multiple bus lines serve the neighborhood in addition to two light rail stops. And Baker’s location to I-25 means it’s simple to get around the rest of the city.

Baker is one of Denver’s oldest neighborhoods. In the 1880’s, the neighborhood was commonly referred to as the South Side and played an important role in the history of Denver. The Broadway street car system helped to spur growth by bringing people to the area. The neighborhood was also home to two of Denver’s first baseball stadiums! And the Denver Health Medical Center has been located at the same site since 1873, although back then it was known as the County Hospital. In 2000, approximately 30 blocks in the Northeast corner of Baker was granted historic district designation.

The area’s historic charm is truly brought to life through the vintage-style homes that line the residential streets. Baker boasts the largest number of 19th and 20th century Victorian Queen Anne style homes is Denver. If that isn’t your style you can find an array of Italianate, Dutch Colonel, Classic Revival, and Denver Square style homes to settle in to. Since the homes in this area largely date back to the 1800s and 1900s, most have been renovated on the inside, while still exuding historic charm on the exterior.

Whether you are looking for an urban residence surrounded by plenty to do, a shorter commute, or a vintage home in one of the city’s most sought after neighborhoods, Baker may be the perfect fit for you.
